Sophie Traynor is a freelance commercial photographer that works in a range of different genres of photography namely beauty, fashion, food and product. Traynor came in to give a workshop where she not only talked about her pathway into industry, walked us through a live brief from start to finish and gave a demonstration on lighting for portraiture to create a mood. I was the model for this demonstration, the whole talk was very insightful especially as this is the industry that I am wanting to go into.



After Traynor gave her talk, she asked us to shoot anything we wanted in groups. This allowed her to then go around and talk to us in smaller groups give pointers and us to ask questions. My group shot a bottle of perfume, Traynor had some useful insights about what we could do differently.



Towards the end of the workshop, I asked Traynor if she could look over my portfolio. Overall, the feedback was positive, with her saying that she was impressed by my technical abilities and model direction. Her main piece of advice was to reduce the amount of work I was showing, as there was too much in my portfolio and no client or portfolio reviewer would look through it all.
